The Catholic Nurses Guild is a Non-Governmental Organization with a very strong religious affiliation and operated by nursing professionals. It was founded in the year 1928 on the occasion of an international meeting in Basle. At the meeting, Presidents of Catholic Nursing Association of several countries decided that there should be an established international professional Catholic organization.

Thus in 1933, the first congress was organized. Only ten countries were in attendance in Lourdes. The gathering gave formal birth to what is now called CICIAMS.(CICIAMS is a French acronym, meaning Commitee’ Internationale Catholique Infirmeres des Assistante Medico-Sociales which translates as International Committee of Catholic Nurses and Socio-medical Assistants).
Its status was approved by the Vatican and a committee was elected. It has branches all over the world with its headquarters in Brussels.

As a catholic nurse we are mandated by the ethics of the profession to nurse patients with human face.

NURSES PRAYER
Oh my God, teach me to
receive the sick in thy name.
Give to my efforts success for the Glory of thy Holy name. It is thy work; without thee, I cannot succeed.
Grant that the sick thou has
placed in my care may be abundantly
blessed, and not one of them be lost
because of any neglect on my part.
Help me to overcome every
temptation, weakness, and strengthen in me whatever may enable me to bring joy to the lives of those I serve.
Give me grace, for the sake of thy
sick ones and of those lives that will be influenced by them through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
